This day has been overwhelming in the best way possible. Two students came to us this week from an atheist home, and before anyone really got to know these kids, our hearts were already breaking for them.
The oldest boy was a struggle. Described as an intellectual, he came to camp in hopes of winning senseless arguments in his apologetics class, but thanks to his extremely competent and persistent leaders, he walked away with truth he simply couldn’t deny. During the invitation tonight, his leader approached me with tears streaming down her face as she announced that this student had given his life to Christ. I couldn’t have had any greater privileged than reporting the news to the two guys who poured into him all week; they’re reactions were a sight I will never forget. The Lord was so active on campus tonight and it was evident.
The other student happened to be a spitfire. She was difficult, but toward the end of the week, she seemed to warm up to me. After hearing that her brother was saved tonight, I was determined to have one more conversation with her. As I walked out the front door, she was walking back to camp from the beach. Convinced that this was a divine appointment, I approached her and asked if we could hang out. Almost immediately, she brought up her brother’s decision, and then said she just wasn’t sure what she thought yet. I was so excited how easily the conversation moved to spiritual matters, and as we sat down, I began to hammer her with the gospel (The Amanda Brock approach, if you will.). She didn’t shut down, but she answered all of my questions with a timid “I don’t know”. Frustrated and discouraged, I prayed with her and left. I was so hoping to see the same change in her; I guess its not meant for tonight. I’ll continue to pray something in her heart changes between now and the time she leaves tomorrow.
I’m just trying to remember my responsibility is only to plant the seed. I’m trusting Father with the rest.
