My Father continues to shower me with blessings I simply don’t deserve.
This week was everything I needed. After spending week 2 with a group of 30 students who seemed more interested in terrorizing me than growing in their faith, I was beginning to wonder if I was really meant to be at camp. This week, however, Father handed me 32 kids that were ready to see their lives changed. Some seemed a little calloused; others struck me as timid. Over the course of the week, I watched the Lord shred their attitudes and change their hearts to look more like his. Students who were known for picking on others began to reach out to the same kids they had ridiculed just a few days prior. The kids who thought they were way too cool for camp became the ones leading on the rec field and contributing to discussion in Bible study. My favorite of all was listening to the boy who slept through the first day of class announce to the group that he was sensing a call to the mission field.
Father is in the life change business, and I can’t believe he would allow me to be a part of it, even in the tiniest way.
So even if I didn’t see my atheist student give her life to Christ, I can still see the Lord’s hand among the Week 3 spitfires. If ever I doubted my call to camp this summer, those fears were eased today. I am confident this is where He wants me, and the reminder is going to give me the strength and renewal to give everything I’ve got in the next month.
Father God, don’t let these students lose the passion you’ve ignited this week. You’re raising up a pretty awesome generation in these kids. Thank you a thousand times over for letting me watch.
